I’ve been at it for a few weeks now, but it’s finally up and working. I got a kit from Stew Mac a year or so back and have been waiting for an excuse to work on it. I tried to get it done for a recent gig, but I couldn’t quite get it all the way completed. There were quite a few parts to wire in.
It was a great project for identifying resistors and learning about diodes and capacitors and other sorts of parts. I was looking for something that could boost my guitar a bit during solo parts or just provide a little more warmth or fullness to the sound while playing.
The Ghost Drive is based off the Klon Centaur Pedal which you can find for a pretty penny on Ebay. I was not about to drop 5 grand though so to the soldering bench I went!
I didn’t have the best soldering iron set up. The tip on my iron is a little big and I definitely had a few mishaps, but I was pleasantly surprised that despite some rough patches, when I plugged in the pedal, it worked! I’ll try to put it on a couple of tracks in the next few weeks so you can hear it. I’ve attached some pictures of the build inside. The component side actually looks pretty neat and tidy, but if you were to flip it over to the soldering side, you might not think so…it works though!
